The “Jurassic World” trailer came out around a week and a half ago and since its release, the video has amassed over 41.4 million views on YouTube and the movie has garnered quite a lot of buzz from fans and critics alike.

Universal Pictures first teased the full-length trailer for “Jurassic World” with a 20-second clip released two days before they debuted the longer promo and that shorter clip also racked up an impressive amount of views at 9.7 million.

Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park” which came out in 1993 became a cinematic classic, winning three Oscars in 1994. The sci-fi thriller starred Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, and spawned two sequels.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park” came out in 1997 starring Goldblum, while “Jurassic Park III” came out in 2001 with Neill as the star but both were not very well-received, the third movie even less so than the second.

“Jurassic World” will be the fourth movie in the “Jurassic Park” series and was originally supposed to hit theaters in 2005, but the release date was continuously pushed back as the script was revised, and the movie underwent a slew of cast and director changes.

Now, as seen in the trailer and synopses online, “Jurassic World” will take place 22 years after the events of “Jurassic Park” with Isla Nublar now home to a fully-functional dinosaur theme park, called Jurassic World.

However, after being open for 10 years, the number of visitors is decreasing so a new attraction (read: a hybrid dinosaur) is created to try to draw visitors and attention but instead backfires with catastrophic results.

“Jurassic World” will star Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jake Johnson, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson and Judy Greer. Colin Trevorrow, the director of the 2012 indie dramedy “Safety Not Guaranteed” is directing and he also co-wrote the movie’s screenplay with Derek Connolly, who wrote “Safety Not Guaranteed.” Spielberg is an executive producer.

Chris Pratt, who plays the lovable and goofy (if a bit slow) Andy Dwyer on NBC’s “Parks and Recreation” rose to leading man status when he starred in the hit summer blockbuster from Marvel, “Guardians of the Galaxy.” With “Jurassic World,” if it does well, he will really prove himself as star material.

Though the trailer looks both scary and awesome, it has also drawn some criticism from both fans and experts. Scientists have shown their disappointment and displeasure with the movie by taking to Facebook and Twitter with complaints about the dinosaurs featured in the promo video.

According to paleontologists and other dinosaur experts, the dinosaurs of “Jurassic World” haven’t been updated since “Jurassic Park” to reflect new discoveries and research and instead are “old school” dinosaurs that were more appropriate in the 1993 movie.

“The original movies brought the dinosaur research of the 1980s to 1990s viewers,” said Thomas R. Holtz, Jr., a paleontologist at the University of Maryland in College Park. “And the latest one seems to bring the dinosaur research of the 1980s to the 2010s viewers.

Additionally, several scientists are grumbling over “Jurassic World” using the tired theme of mad-scientists disregarding the safety of others in pursuit of new breakthroughs, a la Frankenstein.

Meanwhile, some fans have been clamoring that the “Jurassic World” trailer basically looks exactly the same as the original “Jurassic Park” movie, only with more updated technology and gadgets, and with Chris Pratt at the helm.

The trailer also left fans with many questions, including will “Jurassic World” pretend that “Jurassic Park III” (which is considered the worst installment in the franchise) didn’t happen? Viewers have also been wondering whether any of the characters from the first movies will get a cameo or be mentioned in the newest addition to the series.

Despite some of the flak the movies have received, the buzz around “Jurassic World” shows it will most definitely land a big opening weekend as old ’90s kids fans, critics, and new fans will go out to see the new thrilling dinosaur adventure.

As a ’90s kid and someone who saw “Jurassic Park” over 10 years ago, I know I’m psyched to see this classic be rebooted, even if there are some problems with the dinosaurs’ authenticity.

Plus, as a huge Chris Pratt fan, I can’t wait to see him as the star again in what’s sure to be another big movie (though perhaps not at the same level as “Guardians of the Galaxy”).

“Jurassic World” will hit theaters on June 12, 2015, so mark your calendars!
