Finding scholarships for graduate students can be a real challenge. Websites like Fastweb and Scholarships can be helpful, but let’s face it. Most scholarships are geared toward undergraduate students. Fortunately, with the help of a little research and tenacity, it’s not altogether impossible to find financial aid for graduate school.

According to Finaid.org, the average cost of a graduate degree is between $30,000 and $120,000. If you want to take out as little loans as possible, it’s crucial to find all of the free money you can. We’ve done some of the work for you already. Keep reading for 10 amazing and helpful scholarships for graduate students.

Rick Guggolz Memorial Scholarship

The Rick Guggolz Memorial Scholarship is offered by the  Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals (AICP). The organization’s objective is to spread awareness and create solutions for compliance-related issues to improve regulatory compliance within the insurance industry. The scholarship award is open to both graduate and undergraduate students who are majoring in any of the following areas: Insurance, Actuarial Science, Economics, Finance, Management, Mathematics, Risk Management, Statistics, or any Business-related field. This scholarship award is dispersed annually at a rate of $1,500 each year. To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be full-time students at an accredited educational institution.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00.
  • Have completed least two years of full-time college course-work, earned 50% of credit hours required for graduation, or have completed an Associate degree from an accredited educational institution.

Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship

The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship is awarded to thirty new Americans, whether they are immigrants or the children of immigrants. This Fellowship offers graduate students the opportunity to be a part of a larger community with an alumni association of current and past Fellows. Every Fellowship funds up to one to two years of graduate school in any field in the United States. The Fellowship is also open to all fields of study. Winners are awarded up to a $25,000 stipend, as well as 50 percent of required tuition and fees, up to $20,000 per year, for one to two years. To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be born in the U.S.A to parents who were born abroad, or be born abroad themselves.
  • Be 30 years old or younger at the time of the application deadline.
  • Have a Bachelor’s degree by the fall of the application deadline.
  • Be (or plan to be) a full-time student.
  • Be in their first or second year of graduate school.

Beinecke Scholarship Program

The Beinecke Scholarship offers two scholarships for graduate students: the Beinecke Scholarship Program and the Beinecke African Scholarship Program.  The program was created in 1971 by the Board of Directors of The Sperry and Hutchinson Company to honor Edwin, Frederick, and Walter Beinecke. The Board’s objective is to provide substantial scholarships for the graduate students “of exceptional promise”, as the website notes. The program strives to motivate and allow highly motivated graduate students to pursue educational opportunities available to them and to pursue a career path in the arts, humanities and social sciences. Each winner will be awarded $4,000 before entering graduate school and awarded an additional $30,000 while attending graduate school. There are no restrictions on the use of the scholarship, and students are able to supplement the award with other scholarships, assistantships, and research grants. Scholars are encouraged to begin graduate school as soon as possible following their undergraduate graduation and must use all of the funding within five years of completion of their undergraduate career. To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Demonstrate “superior standards of intellectual ability, scholastic achievement and personal promise during his or her undergraduate career”.
  • Be in their junior year of undergraduate studies at the time of application.
  • Plan to enter a master’s or doctoral program in the arts, humanities or social sciences.
  • Have a documented history of receiving need-based financial aid during their undergraduate studies.
  • Be an American citizen or an American National.

SR Education Scholarship 

The SR Education Group was established with a singular goal in mind: to create a world where students can get the education they need to have a successful future. To earn this scholarship, applicants must fill out an application online and write two thought-provoking 300-500 word personal statements. The award itself is a total of $5000.  The recipient of the award will be determined by financial need, academic commitment, and personal circumstances. To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be at least 16 years old.
  • Be enrolled at an accredited post-secondary institution.

As you can see, there are a wide variety of options in terms of scholarships for graduate students.
